Boise State Hosts Workshop for Political Candidates

The Public Policy Center at Boise State University is hosting Candidates Orientation 2006, a workshop for political candidates, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. To register, visit http://ppa.boisestate.edu/centerppa; registration deadline is Aug. 18. The $30 fee covers registration, handouts, refreshments, lunch and parking.

Candidates will learn the ins and outs of public policy, focusing on sources of revenue and tax structure; state and local government expenditures; regional economic outlook; property tax reforms/changes; campaign finance reporting requirements; and trends in public opinion in Idaho.

“The Public Policy Center admires the dedication and courage of those who run for elected office,” said Stephanie Witt, center director. “We hope this candidate orientation can provide an overview of current state and local public policy issues. The timing of the orientation is perfect, given that the Legislature’s special session to address tax policy issues will have just adjourned.”

In keeping with the university’s role and mission in public affairs, the Public Policy Center is involved in several important applied research and training activities that have major statewide impact. In addition to a number of specialized projects funded by grants and contracts, the center develops research material that is used by public officials throughout Idaho.
